History

Costa de Azahar in Castellón is a privileged location with distinctive geographical features where the mountains meet the sea. With more than 120 km of coastline, wonderful beaches, crystal clear waters and mild weather, it is home to postcard towns with a rich historical and cultural heritage such as Benicassim, Oropesa del Mar, Alcocebre, Peñiscola, Benicarló and Vinaroz, north of Castellón, and Moncofar in the south.

The marine and land ecosystems in its eight Natural Parks shelter a diverse native wildlife of huge environmental value. Also, vast areas of endless green carpet dotted by orange groves are found very near the sea.

Different cultures settled in this area leaving their traces over the centuries: Iberians, Romans and Arabs, so visitors can explore unspoilt villages of extraordinary beauty and ancient monuments. They have been preserved so that we can imagine what the men and women who walked these lands hundreds of years ago must have experienced.

The Mediterranean is a warm, open culture and offers the possibility to enjoy a variety of holidays mixing art, culture and sport with the purely festive and fun. Walking through its streets is awakening to a new world of sensations, the murmur of the sea, the intense smell of Azahar, the orange blossom, and the hustle and bustle of people on their everyday lives.
